
Biomedical Engineering organizes a workshop on family disintegration and its relationship to drug abuse.
The Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Technology – Studies and Planning Division, in coordination with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, held an awareness workshop on family disintegration and its relationship to drug abuse. delivered by the psychological researcher, Assistant Director Ammar Abbas Kahdim, in the presence of a number of members and students of the department.
This workshop comes within a series of initiatives aimed at allocating a monthly awareness and training hour to raise students’ awareness and guide them, and contributing to creating a generation aware of the dangers of drugs, and capable of facing difficult social challenges.
The workshop addressed the impact of family disintegration on the spread of the phenomenon of drug abuse, as studies have confirmed that a disintegrated family environment is one of the main factors that push young people towards addiction.
The lecturer touched on the physical and psychological risks of drug abuse, which include adverse effects on the Nervio system, deterioration of mental health, loss of concentration, and behavioral disorders.
During the lecture, he reviewed the most prominent societal challenges associated with drug abuse, such as high crime rates, poor academic performance, and the negative impact on the national economy, in addition to discussing prevention mechanisms.
