Launch of Tree Planting and Agricultural Activities at the Department of Chemical Engineering
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Mohsen Nuri Hamza, the activities for celebrating National Tree Planting Day were launched at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology. The event was attended by the university’s vice presidents for administrative affairs, Professor Dr. Farhad Mohamed Othman, and for scientific affairs and postgraduate studies, Professor Dr. Khawla Salah Khshan, as well as the ministerial committee and the volunteer team from the Ministry of Environment, represented by the Assistant Director of Environment in Baghdad, Engineer Marwa Abdul Karim, along with the technical staff.
During the event, a variety of shadow and seasonal plants were planted in the department’s gardens, and many sustainable student activities related to agriculture and tree planting were organized.
The head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Professor Dr. Khaled Ajami Sukar, pointed out that the activities of this day are part of a series of initiatives regularly organized by the department to support and implement green and sustainable projects as planned in the Green University Program. This includes increasing the planted areas, caring for the university gardens, and maintaining their sustainability through tree planting campaigns and the cultivation of various types of evergreen plants, in addition to planting seasonal flowers.
He added that these activities represent a practical step toward activating the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which designated National Tree Planting Day to coincide with the initiative of planting five million trees and palm trees, launched by Prime Minister Engineer Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani to combat desertification.
The Green Technology Team and the Sustainable Operations Team, which include students and professors from the Department of Chemical Engineering and focus on green and sustainable engineering technologies, also participated in the event.
