Students from the Control and Systems Engineering Department Conduct a Census of Old Trees on Campus
A group of students from the Department of Control and Systems Engineering at the University of Technology carried out a scientific initiative aimed at censing old trees on campus.
The process included a thorough field survey using advanced data collection techniques. The students identified tree species, measured the circumference of tree trunks, and estimated their ages, contributing to the creation of a comprehensive database on the university’s plant wealth.
Assistant Professor Dr. Taghreed Mohammed Mohammed Redha, the project supervisor, emphasized that this work is not limited to being an academic activity only, but rather enhances environmental awareness among students and opens up horizons for future engineering applications that contribute to developing methods for preserving green spaces.
The participating students expressed their enthusiasm for this field experiment, noting the importance of such studies in supporting environmental efforts and promoting sustainability both within and outside the university.
