Materials Engineering Department holds scientific lecture on safety and risk management as part of the Golden Jubilee Cultural Week
The Materials Engineering Department at the University of Technology held a scientific lecture entitled “Safety and Risk Management” as part of the activities and events of the University’s Golden Jubilee Cultural Week. The lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Laith Wadhah Ismail, in the presence of the Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Jawad Kadhim Alawi, and a number of the department’s faculty members.
The lecture included introducing the attendees to occupational safety and the necessity of implementing health and safety rules in workplaces. This is considered one of the fundamental rights guaranteed and stipulated by all labour legislations in various countries and emphasized by international labour standards. This attention is due to the fact that the worker’s health and safety is a fundamental element that affects the production process and the national economy, which necessitates protecting them from the risks of work injuries, health damage, and occupational diseases that the worker may be exposed to during their work.
Occupational safety and health refer to the precautionary and medical measures and procedures aimed at protecting every professional from work accidents during or due to work, ensuring that all workplaces are safe, healthy, and free from any hazards that may harm the worker’s safety and health. The lecture also covered the elements of occupational safety and health, occupational health and safety procedures in the work environment, dealing with risks in the workplace, and the role and responsibility of officials in ensuring a healthy and safe environment for employees.
The lecture concluded with the Head of the Department presenting a certificate of appreciation and a shield of excellence to the lecturer.
