College of Computer Science Organizes Awareness Lecture on Climate Change and Its Impact on Iraq

The College of Computer Science at the University of Technology organized an awareness lecture on “Climate Change and Its Impact on Iraq: Causes and Solutions,” held at the late Dr. Imad Kazem Hall. The lecture was supervised by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, with the presence of the College’s Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Jassim Hadi.

The lecture, delivered by Lecturer Dr. Saeed Reda Saeed, defined climate change as long-term changes in temperature and weather patterns. He explained that the greenhouse effect is the phenomenon where the Earth’s temperature rises due to the trapping of heat between the atmosphere and the Earth, caused by the accumulation of gases that prevent heat from escaping. This results in various negative effects, including the drying up of marshlands, a decrease in water levels, frequent dust storms, reduced agricultural yields, and the destabilization of national security.

The lecture also proposed several solutions to address these challenges, including:Enacting laws to criminalize the destruction of trees, Launching afforestation campaigns and planting green plants, Initiating large-scale projects to manage water resources and control groundwater, Building wastewater treatment projects in all areas of Iraq, Promoting energy conservation and Legislation for waste recycling and funding sanitary landfill projects

The lecture emphasized the importance of taking proactive measures to mitigate the impacts of climate change and preserve the environment for future generations.
