Environmental Research Center Holds Lecture on the Impact of Drugs
The Environmental Research Center at the University of Technology held an awareness lecture as part of the center’s cultural season, titled “The Impact of Drugs: An Exploratory Journey to Understand Physical and Psychological Effects and Preventive Strategies.” The lecture was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Asmaa Nafie Badri, with the attendance of faculty and staff members of the center.
The lecture highlighted the nature of drugs, clarifying that they are substances often used to relieve pain or treat specific diseases. However, some of these substances can turn into narcotics when misused, due to their direct effect on the nervous system and the body’s dependence on them.
The lecturer reviewed the classification of drugs into three main categories: stimulants, depressants, and narcotics, noting that the effect of each type varies depending on the dose and method of use.
She also addressed the psychological and physical effects resulting from addiction, in addition to discussing the most prominent preventive and awareness strategies to reduce the spread of this phenomenon, especially among young people.
