Faculty Member from the College of Electrical Engineering Participates in PhD Defense Committee at the University of Baghdad

As part of ongoing scientific collaboration between Iraqi universities, Prof. Dr. Hanan Abdul Redha Akkar, a faculty member at the College of Electrical Engineering, participated as a committee member in the PhD dissertation defense titled “Using Artificial Intelligence in Diagnosing and Planning Orthodontic Treatment Using 3D Imaging”. The dissertation was presented by PhD candidate Hussam Majid Hameed at the College of Dentistry, University of Baghdad.

Dr. Hanan explained that the study aimed to integrate artificial intelligence models with 3D imaging techniques to assist in diagnosing and planning orthodontic treatments. This involved analyzing cephalometric measurements and enabling AI to identify cephalometric landmarks in real 3D radiographic models. The research also focused on merging outputs from cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and facial scans to produce a comprehensive 3D model for diagnosis and treatment planning.

In recognition of her scientific efforts and valuable contribution to the committee, the Dean of the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad awarded Dr. Hanan a certificate of appreciation.
