Civil Engineering Department Holds Workshop on Drilled Shafts

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Mohsen Nouri Hamza, the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Technology, in cooperation with the Iraqi Scientific Society for Concrete (ISSC), held a workshop entitled “Drilled Shafts: Equipment, Construction, Concrete Quality Control, Problems and Solutions.” The workshop was attended by the Dean of the Department, Prof. Dr. Ali Majeed Khudair, his Administrative Assistant, Prof. Dr. Wael Shawqi Abdul Saheb, and a number of faculty members, staff, and students of the department in the Martyr Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis Hall.

The workshop, presented by Consulting Engineer Faris Abdul Razzaq Rashid and managed by Prof. Dr. Maan Salman Hassan, aimed to strengthen ties between the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Technology and the work and construction sector, and to attract relevant consultants to speak about technical topics related to civil engineering, particularly drilled shafts, given their major importance in the implementation of construction projects such as roads, bridges, and residential complexes.

Drilled shafts are considered one of the vital elements that ensure the safety and stability of drilling and excavation sites. These shafts play a fundamental role in distributing loads and maintaining the integrity of the infrastructure. They are among the most important construction components that must be available for the success of engineering projects.
