Civil Engineering holds a workshop on the role of modern engineering technologies in supporting the mechanisms of the population census in Iraq 2024

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Technology held a workshop entitled (The role of modern engineering technologies in supporting the mechanisms of the population census in Iraq 2024) in the presence of the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Farhad Muhammad Othman, the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Ali Majeed Khadir, and a number of professors and members of the university.

During the workshop, the Head of the Department spoke about the importance of modern engineering technologies in enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of the population census in Iraq and the role of the department in supporting the efforts of the population census by preparing a generation of specialists capable of applying the latest engineering technologies in this field.

The workshop was chaired by the Head of the Geomatics Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Adi Zakaria, and the lecture was given by Prof. Dr. Mahdi Al-Alaq, during which he discussed the role of modern engineering technologies such as geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing technologies, and big data in improving the accuracy and efficiency of population census operations and how to employ these tools to provide comprehensive and modern data that supports the decision-making process and development planning.

The workshop included several topics, including the importance of the population census in national planning and sustainable development, the role of information systems (GIS) in planning and implementing the population census, and the challenges and opportunities in the population census in Iraq.
