College of Biomedical Engineering Organizes Scientific Visit to the Iraqi Specialized Kidney Dialysis Center

The Medical Devices Laboratory team at the College of Biomedical Engineering, University of Technology, organized a scientific field visit for third-year students in the Department of Medical Devices Engineering to the Iraqi Specialized Center for Kidney Dialysis, part of the Medical City Directorate.

The delegation was welcomed by Dr. Adnan Abdul Azim, the hospital director, who expressed his appreciation for the initiative and emphasized the importance of building strong partnerships between academic institutions and specialized medical centers to enrich practical learning. The hospital’s engineering and operations staff demonstrated high levels of cooperation and professionalism, offering students a detailed and hands-on explanation of the operational systems within the dialysis unit.

The visit focused on the technical and engineering aspects of dialysis machines, during which the hospital’s engineering team provided insight into:

The working mechanism of dialysis machines from a biomedical engineering perspective,

Key technical specifications, Common malfunctions, Routine maintenance procedures, and Modern diagnostic tools and techniques used for identifying and resolving technical issues.

This visit offered students a valuable opportunity to observe real-world applications of their academic studies, effectively bridging the gap between theory and practice. It served to enhance their competence and better prepare them for future careers in the medical engineering field.

At the conclusion of the visit, the college delegation extended their sincere thanks and appreciation to the hospital administration and the technical and engineering staff for their warm reception and scientific collaboration, affirming the importance of continuing such initiatives that strengthen educational outcomes through practical experience.
