
College of Materials Engineering Holds Awareness Seminar on Green Hydrogen and Plastic Waste Recycling
The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Materials Engineering, University of Technology, organized an awareness seminar entitled “Green Hydrogen and Plastic Waste Recycling: Sustainable Solutions to Mitigate the Impact of Climate Change.” The lectures were delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Abdul Hussein Al-Zuhairi, a faculty member at the college and representative of West Asian countries in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and Ms. Dalia Fernanda Marquez, co-chair of the Women’s Major Group in UNEP. The seminar was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Jawad Kadhum Al-Aliwi, his Scientific Assistant, Kadhum Matar Shabib, and a number of faculty members and staff.
Dr. Al-Zuhairi’s lecture highlighted the importance of transitioning to green hydrogen as a clean energy source and its role in reducing carbon emissions. Ms. Dalia Fernanda delivered her lecture remotely via Google Meet, focusing on the environmental challenges posed by plastic waste and the importance of integrating circular economy concepts and sustainable solutions.
The seminar concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the lecturers in recognition of their efforts.
