In line with directives from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Department of Electromechanical Engineering at the University of Technology presented the first lecture in the “University Mornings” series, under the supervision of the Counseling and Psychological Services Unit and the Women’s Affairs Unit in the college.

The first lecture in this series focused on raising awareness about “Cyber Extortion.” The lecture was delivered by the faculty members: Assistant Professor Aseefa Mahdi Mohammed, Lecturer Lamia Hussein Aasi, Lecturer Mohammed Sabah, and Lecturer Rifah Karim, for first-year students, in the e-classroom hall.

The discussion covered various types of cyber extortion, its definition, methods of prevention, and the steps to take before becoming a victim of such crimes. It also included information on how to report cyber extortion, the authorities to contact, and the legal stance on this crime along with the penalties for the offenders.

The risks caused by these cybercrimes were highlighted, particularly their impact on individuals and society as a whole.

The lecture concluded with a recommendation to students to report cases of cyber extortion to security authorities and avoid sending images, files, or documents to untrusted parties.
