The Department of Mechanical Engineering Discusses the Doctoral Thesis Titled “Enhancing the Performance of Double Slope Solar Stills Using Rotating Cylinders Filled with Phase Change Material and PV-Powered Heaters”
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technological University discussed the doctoral thesis titled “Enhancing the Performance of Double Slope Solar Stills Using Rotating Cylinders Filled with PCM and PV-Powered Heaters,” presented by researcher Maryam Emad Murad.
The thesis involved a series of experiments focusing on the manufacturing and testing of two types of solar still systems: a conventional double-slope still and an advanced double-slope still, with the aim of improving thermal performance and increasing the efficiency of distilled water production.
The experimental results showed that the daily production of the conventional solar still equipped with smooth cylinders was 3166 ml/day, while the still with corrugated cylinders achieved a productivity of 4787.2 ml/day, marking a 51.2% increase in productivity.
The discussion committee consisted of Professor Dr. Ikhlas Mohammed Fayyad (Chairperson), Professor Dr. Star Jaber Habib (Member), Professor Dr. Aqeel Abdullah Mohammed (Member), Assistant Professor Dr. Eyad Mahmoud Salman (Member), Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdulnabi Omran (Member), with supervision from Professor Dr. Haidar Abdul Dhaid (Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Deputy for Scientific Affairs) and Professor Dr. Wissam Hamid Aliwi.
