Environmental Research Center Organizes a Lecture on Methane Impact on the Environment
The Environmental Research Center at the University of Technology organized a scientific lecture entitled “The Role of Methane in Global Warming and Environmental Pollution.” The lecture was delivered by Asst. Lec. Talib Kamel, and was attended by faculty members and center staff.
The lecture addressed methane as the simplest hydrocarbon and a major component of natural gas, as well as its natural emission sources, such as anaerobic decomposition of organic matter and swamps.
The lecturer explained the dangers of methane as one of the most potent greenhouse gases, despite its short lifetime compared to carbon dioxide. He also reviewed its uses as an energy source and its importance in the chemical industry.
The lecture concluded with a review of the research efforts being made to reduce methane emissions and enhance its role as a clean energy source, with significant interaction from the audience through scientific interventions and discussions.
