The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Materials Engineering, University of Technology, held an awareness lecture titled “Concepts of Justice, Human Rights, and Promoting Values of Peace, Tolerance, and Countering Extremism.” The event was attended by the College Dean, Prof. Dr. Jawad Kadhim Aliwi, and the Scientific Assistant Dean, Prof. Dr. Kadhim Matar Shbeeb, along with several staff members from the Ministry of Interior, faculty members, and college staff.

The lecture, delivered by Sief Sabri Qasim, Head of the Training Unit at the Studies and Research Center, Community Police Directorate, Ministry of Interior, and a physicist, focused on defining extremism, its primary causes, negative impacts, and ways to achieve intellectual security to minimize its effects.

The lecture also covered sources that fuel extremist ideas, preventive strategies, and the roles played by governmental and non-governmental institutions. Emphasis was placed on the role of educational institutions in crafting educational discourse that aims to foster intellectual security, enhance national identity, and citizenship values. This, in turn, promotes sustainable peace, moderation, and acceptance of others, while rejecting all forms of extremism and intolerance. The goal is to enable students to engage in constructive dialogue and correct misguided thoughts through reason and persuasion.

The lecture concluded with the Dean of the College awarding a certificate of appreciation to the speaker in recognition of his efforts in organizing the session.
