Mechanical Engineering Department Organizes Scientific Visit to Baghdad South Gas Power Plant
In the context of enhancing cooperation between the University of Technology and the power generation sector, the General Mechanical Engineering Branch of the Mechanical Engineering Department organized a scientific visit to the Baghdad South Gas Power Plant with the participation of a selection of fourth-year students, under the direct supervision of the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Abdul Hadi Jabr, and the Head of the General Mechanical Engineering Branch, Professor Dr. Sattar Jaber.
The visit aimed to bridge the academic aspect with the practical reality, where the plant’s engineers briefed the students on the plant’s operating mechanism and the power generation technologies used. They provided a detailed presentation covering operational processes and the most prominent challenges facing the energy sector, particularly in the areas of preventive maintenance and periodic repairs.
The visit included a comprehensive field tour of the plant’s facilities, during which students had the opportunity to interact directly with the technical and engineering staff, and ask questions related to technical and operational aspects, which contributed to expanding their understanding and connecting theoretical knowledge with practical applications.
This visit is part of a series of scientific activities that the department is keen to organize, with the support of the department and branch leadership, to enhance students’ practical skills and motivate them to actively engage in the labor market, qualifying them for a distinguished professional career in the fields of mechanical engineering and power generation.
