The University of Technology in Iraq Ranks Second place Among Iraqi Universities in the 2025 Transparent Ranking

versity of Technology in Iraq has achieved a significant academic milestone by securing the second position among Iraqi universities in the Transparent Ranking for Citation Impact. The university registered a total of 153,654 citations, according to data from prominent researchers on the Google Scholar platform.

The Transparent Ranking relies on the number of citations included in the profiles of prominent researchers at universities, and it aims to encourage open access to academic knowledge. The ranking is developed by the Cybermetrics Lab at the Institute of Public Policy and Public Goods (Spain).

This ranking uses a combination of webometric and bibliometric indicators to comprehensively evaluate university performance. It began in 2004 and is published twice a year (January and July), analyzing over 32,000 higher education institutions from more than 200 countries.

Performance is measured based on three main criteria:

Vision (50%): The impact of the university’s content on the web.

Transparency (10%): Citations from prominent researchers (the top 310 researchers, excluding the top 20 to avoid outliers).

Excellence (40%): The number of papers within the top 10% of the most-cited research worldwide.

This achievement reflects the remarkable development of scientific output at the University of Technology and the quality of its internationally published research. The Transparent Ranking contributes to promoting academic transparency and supports open access initiatives to disseminate knowledge on a global scale. It is an effective tool for driving change in academic policies and enhancing universities’ digital presence.
