Students of the Department of Architecture Engineering present their final project for the design of a Co-Ed Primary School.
Second-year students – Architectural Design Branch of the Department of Architecture Engineering at the University of Technology presented their project titled “Design of a Model Primary School.”
The project aimed to introduce students to the function of co-educational primary school buildings by providing a stimulating educational environment that includes the design of comfortable classrooms equipped with modern teaching technologies, enhancing social interaction by providing shared spaces such as playgrounds and libraries to promote interaction among students. The design also focuses on flexibility, with spaces that can be adjusted to meet various needs such as group and individual activities, addressing different human scales for children while maintaining compatibility with adult scales within one project. Additionally, it emphasizes the integration of activities through the study of spatial distribution for educational, recreational, and administrative activities, along with the distribution of furniture within the spaces. Furthermore, environmental sustainability is achieved by using eco-friendly building materials and designing natural lighting and ventilation systems. The project also ensures safety and security for students by providing clear emergency exits and designing wide corridors for easy movement, while also ensuring a safe environment for students to enter and exit the project site.
The final project was attended by the scientific assistant and the administrative assistant to evaluate the students’ projects, led by Dr. Ahmad Louay Ahmad, the responsible faculty member for the second-year architectural design branch. Both praised the high level and variety of the creative design ideas presented by the students.
The design team included: Dr. Ahmad Louay Ahmad, head of the second-year architectural design branch, Assistant Professor Younis Mahmoud Mohammed Saleem, Dr. Lehib Ali Abdul Hussein, Dr. Zainab Abdul Hadi Dawood, and Asst.L. Ahmad Mahdi.
