Department of Materials Engineering Holds an Educational Seminar on Domestic Violence, Harassment, Electronic Blackmail, and Drugs

The Women’s Affairs Unit at the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology held an educational seminar entitled “Domestic Violence, Harassment, Electronic Blackmail, and Drugs.” Lectures were given by Captain Dhu Al-Faqar Muhammad Yusuf, Commissioner Bahr Falah Hassan, and Assistant Political Advisor Muhammad Sabbar Abbas – Community Police Directorate – Department of Relations and Media/Minister’s Office/Ministry of Interior, in the presence of the department dean, Prof. Dr. Jawad Kadhim Alawi, his scientific assistant, Prof. Dr. Kadhim Matar Shabib, and a number of faculty members and students of the department.

The first lecture, given by Captain Dhu Al-Faqar Muhammad Yusuf, was entitled “Misuse of Social Media and Electronic Blackmail.” The lecture aimed to clarify the concept of electronic blackmail and highlight its various types, while discussing its negative effects on individuals and society. The lecture reviewed the blackmail methods used by blackmailers and how they exploit modern technology to achieve their illegal goals. It also educated the attendees on ways to secure digital accounts, in addition to encouraging them to immediately report any cases of blackmail through the unified emergency line 911.

The second lecture, given by Assistant Political Advisor Muhammad Sabbar Abbas and Commissioner Bahr Falah Hassan, was entitled “Family Disintegration and Strengthening Family Bonds.” The lecture included domestic violence (its types, causes, and ways to protect society from its dangers), as well as the legal dimension and the community police procedures to reduce violence in all its forms. Educational films produced by the community police, highlighting the negative effects of domestic violence, were shown.

The seminar concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the lecturers by the head of the department.
