Computer Science Department organize a lecture on violent extremism and its impact on human rights

Computer Science Department at the University of Technology organized a lecture on (violent extremism and its impact on human rights) in the hall of the late Dr. Imad Kahdim, in the presence of the Head of the Department of Computer Science, Prof. Dr. Alaa Kahdim Farhan, the Director of the Scientific Affairs and Cultural Relations Division, Dr. Anmar Ali, and the lecturers and students of the department.

The workshop, in which the Director of the Legal Unit in the Department, Lect. Amal Abdul-Jabbar, dealt with the definition of extremism as a departure from moderation and centrism away from the standards of society, while violent extremism is the beliefs and actions of those who use violence to promote their most extreme ideological goals.

The lecture showed the causes of extremism, including social, economic, family disintegration, or psychological reasons. Among the factors that drive extremism are attraction factors such as the presence of groups that use attractive rhetoric and provide financing services that threaten freedom of opinion.

The lecture called for combating violent extremism through a wide range of preventive measures and interventions and designing programs capable of preventing and combating these operations.

At the end of the workshop, the head of the department awarded the lecturer a certificate of appreciation in recognition of her efforts.
