The Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering Holds a Seminar on Students’ Rights and Responsibilities
The Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering at the University of Technology, in collaboration with the Human Rights Unit, organized an awareness seminar titled “Students’ Rights and Responsibilities within the Educational Institution,” attended by faculty members, staff, and students in Al-Akkaz Hall.
Dr. Mahdi Karim Ali, a faculty member at Al-Israa University College of Law, delivered the lecture. He discussed the importance of university students being aware of their rights and responsibilities in creating a healthy educational environment based on respect and mutual understanding. He highlighted students’ rights to quality and equal education without discrimination, the right to a safe learning environment that encourages expression and participation in university activities, and the right to receive psychological and social support.
Dr. Ali emphasized students’ responsibilities, including adherence to institutional regulations and laws, respecting professors, peers, and staff, attending classes regularly, actively participating in lessons and activities, and maintaining both public and private property within the university campus to contribute to a positive educational environment.
The seminar included discussions and contributions from students on how to legally claim their rights and how students can perform their responsibilities in a way that positively impacts both their academic and personal success.
The lecturer recommended raising awareness of students’ rights and responsibilities through workshops and ongoing awareness programs. He also emphasized strengthening dialogue between students and administration to build a relationship based on trust and transparency, as well as encouraging students to participate in developing regulations that protect everyone’s rights and ensure compliance with responsibilities.
