University of Technology Holds Workshop for Faculty Returning from Scholarships Abroad

Under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, the University of Technology held a workshop for faculty members returning from international scholarships. The event took place on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Al-Kindi Hall in the College of Electromechanical Engineering. Attendees included the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Mohsen Nouri Hamza; Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Khawla Salah Khashan; Dr. Hazem Al-Zubaidi, Director of the Department of Studies, Planning, and Follow-up at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research; along with a number of college deans and returning scholarship recipients.

In his lecture, Dr. Hazem Al-Zubaidi emphasized the Minister’s strong interest in scholarship recipients, highlighting their potential as valuable assets to advance the state of education in Iraq. He noted that the University of Technology had distinguished itself, with 300 of its faculty members outperforming peers from other universities in their respective scholarship programs.

He also underscored Minister Al-Aboudi’s commitment to organizing conferences for scholarship recipients as part of a strategic approach to implementing key decisions.

During his remarks, the University President outlined the institution’s efforts to achieve several goals, including transforming into a productive university through its research and training centers. He also announced plans to establish a specialized engineering testing laboratory. The President encouraged returning faculty to share their experiences and suggestions based on what they had learned abroad, discussing what could be implemented and what might be shaped into future development plans.

In a related comment, the Dean of the College of Electromechanical Engineering, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ghassan Abdul Hassan Bilal, invited returning faculty specializing in electromechanical engineering to participate in postgraduate thesis committees and to supervise graduate students.

The workshop also included an open discussion, where attendees raised questions and offered proposals. These were addressed and thoroughly discussed by the University President and the Director of the Department of Studies and Planning at the Ministry in a detailed and scientific manner.
